IJA statement on insurance cover for journalists
Mr. S. Sabanayakan, President, IJA, and Mr. Sekhar Sengupta, General Secretary, IJA, have issued the following statement on Feb. 18, 2016:
Indian Journalists’ Association (IJA), has welcomed the State Government’s decision to give health insurance cover to accredited journalists upto the age of 65 years. IJA thank the Chief Minister, Ms. Mamata Banerjee, for this decision.
However, the CM is requested to widen the insurance cover to all categories of genuine journalists who have to toil hard in unusual hours to produce newspapers and transmit news through electronic media.
These journalists cannot be left out from any government benefits proposed by the State Government.
Executive Council decisions on December 26, 2015
The Executive Council, with President, S. Sabanayakan in the chair, met at the IJA Office on Saturday, December 26, 2015, and took the following decisions:
1. An eye camp will be held at the Press Club on Sunday, January 10, 2016 from 10 am. Susrut Eye Foundation will provide a comprehensive eye check-up to members.

Website launched
The newly developed IJA website, www.ija.org.in, will be launching on February 28, 2015, at Press Club. The nicely laid-out website fulfilled IJA’s long standing wish to go global of its activities.
The website had a soft launch on AGM day last year. Senior member, Mihir Ganguly, had done the honours then.
Calendar & Diary
Like previous years, IJA General Secretary, Sekhar Sengupta, brought
out an attractive IJA wall calendar and a diary. They were distributed to members who attended the medical camp on February 7, 2015, at Press Club.
Seminar on Geriatrics
A medical seminar on geriatrics, organised by IJA and supported by
ONGC, was held at Press Club on February 28, 2015. Well-known
geriatrician, Dr. Dipankar Debnath, dwelt on many aspects of the disease affecting the elderly for the benefit of the well-attended gathering.
