IJA statement on insurance cover for journalists

Mr. S. Sabanayakan, President, IJA, and Mr. Sekhar Sengupta, General Secretary, IJA, have issued the following statement on Feb. 18, 2016:

Indian Journalists’ Association (IJA), has welcomed the State Government’s decision to give health insurance cover to accredited journalists upto the age of 65 years. IJA thank the Chief Minister, Ms. Mamata Banerjee, for this decision.

However, the CM is requested to widen the insurance cover to all categories of genuine journalists who have to toil hard in unusual hours to produce newspapers and transmit news through electronic media.

These journalists cannot be left out from any government benefits proposed by the State Government.
