International workshop on rural journalism at Kalyani University
KALYANI: Celebrating the centenary of Indian Journalists’ Association (IJA), Nadia District Unit conducted an international workshop on rural journalism on June 12.
Participants in this workshop were journalists from Bangladesh’s Baishakhi TV and other journalists from India and abroad. Students, journalists and others also took part. Eminent journalists from Kolkata, Sekhar Sengupta and Suven Raha, as well as Professor of the Islamic University of Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman, acted as instructors.
Present on the stage were Professor Manas Kumar Sanyal, Vice Chancellor of Kalyani University, who inaugurated the workshop, IJA general secretary Sekhar Sengupta, Prof. Mustafizur Rahman, Calcutta Sports Journalists’ Club president, Suven Raha, Professor Sujoy Mandal of Kalyani University and Dr. Kingshuk Chakraborty, National Award winning teacher.
After the class on rural journalism, the question and answer session lasted for about an hour. Eighty students from different districts took part. The whole event was held at Kalyani University. Kalyani University and Department of Folklore of the university sponsored the workshop.
Nadia District IJA unit’s general secretary, Sukhendu Acharya, was the brain behind the programme.
