Veteran scribe TN Roy felicitated at AGM

BURDWAN: A new committee of the Purba Bardhaman District Committee has been formed at the Annual General Meeting on March 6 at the Burdwan Lions Club Hall.
A minute’s silence was observed at the beginning by remembering the members of the organisation, Geeta Ghosh, eminent Singer Lata Mangeskar, Sandhya Mukherjee, Bapi Lahiri footballers Subhash Bhoumick, Surajit Sengupta and others who passed away. Member Shyamaprasad Chowdhury started the programme with an inaugural song. District Committee President Swapan Mukherjee presided over the function.
As part of the convention of the district committee, every year a senior member was felicitated at the AGM. This year it was the turn of the man who started it all, Tarak Nath Roy, vice-president of the state committee and a veteran, was felicitated by the district committee with a bouquet, Manpatra, and gifts. State Committee member Aminur Rahman, read out the Manpatra. Mr. Roy was also felicitated by district committee secretary Arup Laha, State committee President, S. Sabanayakan, General Secretary, Sekhar Sengupta, who were there as the observers of the state body.
Secretary of the district committee, Arup Laha, read out the activity report and treasurer, Sheikh Samsuddin, presented the income and expenditure statement. Members discussed both aspects of the reports and both were unanimously passed by the house. Implementation of various sports, culture and social programmes including protecting the interests of journalists and the profession were discussed. Member Jagannath Bhoumick conducted the programme in his own style.
